Israël Moiseich Gelfand (1913-2009)

He was born on September 2nd at Okny Kherlson, Israël was a mathematician who made major contributions to many branches of mathematics, including group theory and linear algebra. He received numerous awards and honours, including the order of Lenin and wolf prize, he was a fellow of the royal society and a life long academic, serving decade as a professor at Moscow State University and after immigrating to the united states shortly before his 76th birthday, at the Bush Campus of new Jersey’s Rutgers University.

Israël Moisevich is know for many developments including:


-The Gelfand representation

-The Gelfand-Mazur theorem in banach algebra theory

-The Gelfand-Naimark theorem

-The Gelfand-Naimark-segal construction

And many more results, particularly in the representation theory for the classical groups Israël died in 2009.
