Vincenzo Viviani


Vincenzo Viviani was educated by jesuits he was also a student of Galileo and he was with him till his death. Later he started working started working especially on geometry and physics in 1647 afterwards in 1660 he worked together with Borelli on the speed of sound by measuring the interval between the flame and the sound cannon. Soon he became very popular in Europe. Louis XIV offered him a position in the Royal academy and in the same year he also got an opportunity to become an astronomer but he refuses and became mathematician. He is also known for determining the tangeantto cycloid. At his death Viviani has left a treaty almost complete on the strength of solids so it was compeleted and published by Grandi.
